HRC Emergency Fund

This fund can be used for various housing costs including:

Rental arrears, or Last Month's Rent
Utility arrears or deposits
Appropriate emergency shelter when existing community resources are unavailable
Fees related to eviction or disconnection of services
Moving costs/Storage
Emergency medical, food, personal hygiene or transportation for homeless persons

Assistance may be available to individuals or families a maximum of once per year except in extraordinary circumstances. Maximum level of assistance may vary according to availability of funds.

Rent Bank

Low income tenants in Peterborough City and County who do NOT live in rent-geared-to-income (RGI) housing and owe rent arrears to their landlord may apply to the Rent Bank.

A maximum of two (2) months rent arrears can be considered
Assistance is available only once in a two (2) year period.
Assistance is available for rent arrears only. Mortgages, Last month's rent, money owing for damages to a unit, or Landlord Tenant Board/Sheriff fees cannot be considered

The Rent Bank is funded by the Province of Ontario and administered according to provincial guidelines. Income criteria are based on Household Income Limits for Peterborough City and County.

LEAP for PUS (Peterborough Utility Services)

LEAP for Enbridge

This funding is available for clients of Enbridge Gas to assist with gas arrears or deposits.

LEAP for Hydro One

This fund is available for clients of Hydro One for hydro arrears. It can assist with a maximum of $500 for gas heat, or $600 for electric heat. There is a two part application required. To apply contact 1-855-487-5327.

Winter Warmth - Enbridge & Hydro One

The Winter Warmth Fund enables low income households to avoid losing heat and warmth during the cold winter months.  Services provided include financial assistance for bill/arrears payments

FUSE (Fund for Utility Service Emergencies)

Low income customers of Peterborough Utilities Services (PUS) may apply for FUSE if they are at risk of losing their hydro or need help to restore service. FUSE funds can be used for PUS utility arrears and security deposits.

Assistance may be available to individuals or families a maximum of once per year except in extraordinary circumstances. Maximum levels of assistance may vary according to availability of funds.

The PUS may give grace periods (temporary delay of disconnection) to applicants while HRC processes applications. Grace periods may be refused based on payment history and amount of arrears. They may be suspended without notice to the customer at the sole discretion of PUS.
