Hamilton Township Mutual Insurance provides boost for food banks in Norwood, Campbellford, Warkworth

December 5th, 2017

NORWOOD - The Asphodel-Norwood, Warkworth and Campbellford Food banks have become, unfortunately, necessities in today's societies. Fortunately with the increase in those individuals and families struggling to get by, there is a large number of generous individuals and organizations that step up to meet the increasing need.

The three local foodbanks were the recent recipients of a donation of freshly prepared meat compliments of Hamilton Township Mutual Insurance Company. For the last few years HTMI have purchased the second-place steer at the Norwood Fair and donated it to the local foodbanks. Hilts Butcher Shop, a locally owned fourth generation abattoir donates the cutting and wrapping each year.

Each food bank received nearly 340 lbs of prime beef to help support their clients.

Asphodel Norwood Fire and Rescue are also keen supporters of the Asphodel Norwood Food Bank, especially at Christmas time. For many years the fire department has collected food items during the annual Christmas Parade. This year was no exception as ANFR delivered several boxes and bags of food stuffs from the recent parade to the food bank last week.

The Norwood IODE also collected several boxes of nonperishables at their annual Christmas pot-luck and donated them to the local food bank.

The Asphodel Norwood Ministerial Association Food Bank operates out of the Norwood Town Hall, 2357 County Road 45 and is usually open on the second, fourth and fifth Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (This month is an exception as they will be held on the third Thursday instead of the fourth). Any emergency food needs between Distribution Days can be directed to 705-639-1777 or 705-696-9855
