Peterborough’s new accessible bus starts Sunday

March 2nd, 2018

The city's new community bus service starts running this Sunday at 10 a.m.

A new mini-bus will leave from Hedonics Rd. and will follow a set route, taking riders downtown to George St., Lansdowne St., Walmart, Sobey's, Talwood Dr., the hospital and back again.

The route will take an hour to complete; it will leave every hour on the hour Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bus runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.

Although the bus is available for anyone to ride, the idea is to give residents who may find it challenging to use conventional public transit another option besides the city's Handi-Van service, the city states in a release.

The mini-bus has no stairs and seats up to 15 passengers, and offers two spots for wheelchairs.

"I am excited about the roll-out of the community bus service," stated Coun. Don Vassiliadis, the city's transportation chairman, in a press release. "I see the community bus as being especially needed and appreciated by people who are finding the regular bus a bit difficult to use but don't need the door-to-door service of the Handi-Van."
