Registration begins for April 27 Juke Box Mania event in Peterborough

March 5th, 2018

The city's most challenging, fundraising music trivia competition is just around the corner.

Juke Box Mania is happening at the Memorial Centre on April 27.

It's an annual name-that-tune game in support of the Community Counselling and Resource Centre (CCRC).

Registration for Juke Box opened Monday.

Details were announced at Kenner Collegiate, where students in the school's culinary program will be preparing an appetizer for the event. They'll be among 10 local caterers feeding hungry trivia goers.

CCRC offers a number of services, including a housing resource centre, credit counselling services, professional counselling, and the community service order program.

Yet despite serving the community for more than 60 years, CCRC isn't too well known. It tends to be an organization residents use, but don't often talk about, said Casey Ready, CCRC's executive director.

"People find us when they need us," Ready said.

To help raise CCRC's profile, teams of Juke Box Heroes have been added to the mania mix this year.

Four teams of two will be reaching out to community members as part of a friendly, fundraising competition.

The Juke Box Heroes are:

• Casey Ready and Charlie Martin, CCRC president

• Ben van Veen, Century 21 United Realty salesman, and Catherine Hanrahan, longtime Juke Box emcee and Fresh 100.5 morning show host

• Alicia Doris, CCRC board member, and Bob Campbell, former Juke Box chairman and former CCRC board member

• Vince Bierworth, promotions manager for Country 105 and Energy 99.7, and Mike Judson, Country 105 morning show host

Each team will vie to raise the most money for the cause, while spreading the word of CCRC's work.

This year's fundraising goal is $35,000. Proceeds will support CCRC's programs and services, which serve more than 7,000 households a year.

Tables of eight are available for purchase, either through corporate sponsorship or at a community level. Corporate tables start at $1,000 and will get VIP status and profile. Community tables are $520.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and features appetizers, a silent auction and 10 rounds of name that tune.
