Enbridge warning its customers of a text messaging scams

Enbridge Gas Distribution is advising its customers of a text messaging scam.

Previously, variations of this scam have also circulated through email.

According to Enbridge, the text scam advises that a 'refund' or 'rebate' has been processed and asks the recipient to click a link to complete an INTERAC e-transfer.

Enbridge states that it does not communicate with its customers by text message. Refunds are generally processed either directly on the bill or via cheque. Enbridge states that email transfers are available, but only at the customer's request.

Enbridge customers that receive this test message are advised not to click on any links, not to share any person or account information, and to report suspicious activity to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, 1-888-495-8501. You can also email the customer ombudsman at Enbridge Gas at
